Getting the word out

IMG_0713A special thanks to nearly 40 Better Men (and women) who attended the Deceptions/Illusions training last weekend. JMKC was proud to introduce AWARE, a nationally recognized leader in school-based curriculum designed to raise awareness among students on the issues of porn and trafficking. It was an intense and productive time of learning as well as being challenged by first-hand stories from the front lines.

Next up: A leadership team has been established and on Feb. 1 our planning meeting will be held. Our goal is to put forth an aggressive and well planned strategy to bring this tool into area schools. Stay tuned for updates.

Here’s how we can help our kids.

Now that we’ve taken the first step of getting locally engaged in the fight to end demand for prostituted kids, many men are asking what else they can do. Here’s a simple answer to that question: leverage your influence as a man by teaching boys (and girls) about this issue and give them practical ways to protect themselves.

Just.Men.KC. is proud to be partnering with AWARE in bringing “Deceptions and Illusions” training to the Metro Area. Deceptions is a school-based curriculum developed last year to help educate middle and high school students on the dangers of sexual exploitation and the internet. On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18-19, 2013 we will be helping to host a training for men and women who want to bring these powerful tools to our schools.

Located in Washington State, AWARE utilizes trained volunteer speakers who partner with local school districts to provide this program. After presenting to more than 10,000 students over the past 7 years on the dangers of pornography through the Illusions program, AWARE saw the need to address trafficking as a specific (and tragic) outcome of the porn culture in which we live. Deceptions responds to this need and has been introduced in many places around the country receiving enthusiastic support from many State Attorney’s General.

What else can you do in this fight? Leverage your influence as a man and learn how to bring this program to the schools in your community.

Sign up for the training today and let’s take the lead in protecting our kids. Get more information and REGISTER HERE.

There’s more to being a man in KC than BBQ and Nascar!

On Saturday, June 30 nearly 400 men from 8 states participated in the launch of Just. Men. KC. This was easily one of the highest concentrations of men gathered specifically to address the evil of the demand for prostituted kids yet to assemble.

Our message is simple: men create the demand for prostituted kids and the better men, (Just. Men.) are mobilizing to end that demand in the Heartland. A special thanks to Johnson County Sheriff’s office, Veronica’s Voice, Westside Family Church, The Urban Scholastic Center and The EPIK Project for your partnership and service in this initiative.

Because better men make a better city

Just. Men. KC. Is a year-long initiative aimed at engaging men in the struggle to end demand for prostituted kids in the Kansas City Metro area. In creative partnership, Westside Family Church, Veronica’s Voice and The EPIK Project have banded together to call good men to the fight. Just. Men. KC. aims to do more than simply raise awareness. Our goal is to actively engage 1000 local men in the fight to end demand between Father’s Day 2012 and Father’s Day 2013. “Actively engaged” men do two things:

  1. They literally buy in to the idea of supporting local victim relief work. This means a symbolic financial commitment to the work of Veronica’s Voice, the area’s leader in victim advocacy.
  2. They demonstrate both the will and the skill to leverage personal influence for lasting change. We like to call it “telling a better Manstory.”
The bottom line is this:  Men create the demand for prostituted kids. Better men…just. men. will have to end it.
